Principal Liz Burns delivers the news to BAHS Teacher of the Year, Mary Fowler.

Broken Arrow High School announced its 2015-16 Teacher of the Year, and the winner is Mary Fowler. Fowler is a physical education teacher and has worked at Broken Arrow High School since 1992.

“I love working with teens,” Fowler said. “I have the perfect job. I enjoy having an opportunity to make a difference – whether it’s an increase in confidence, weight loss, or just learning how to deal with stress.”

Fowler was shocked to receive the news.

“I just can’t believe I was chosen,” Fowler said. “It is such an honor.”

Principals Elizabeth Burns, Larry Lewis, and Tracy Green surprised Fowler with the news while she was taking her third hour class out on a walk. They greeted her with a bouquet of bright yellow flowers and buckets of confetti. Senior Brielle Kraus was with the principals when Fowler received the news.

“Mrs. Fowler is not only a good teacher, but an incredible person,” Burns said. “She will be a fabulous representative for us in the district contest. We are proud to have teachers of her caliber here on campus.”

Fowler’s students all notice the energy she brings to class.

“You can tell she loves what she does,” Kraus said. “She really works with students and pushes them to be their best.”

Fowler will now be a contestant for the Broken Arrow Teacher of the Year, which is chosen from all of the site winners later in the school year.
