It’s that time of the year again when Broken Arrow’s most coveted athletes are recognized by the community and the collegiate world by publicly announcing the school they will play their sport for. Yes, it’s signing day. On Feb. 1, the Broken Arrow Varsity Club will host the event where numerous athletes who have been Tigers for the past four years will take their talents to the next level. Assistant Athletic Director Melinda Knight along with the rest of the Broken Arrow Athletic Department is excited about the event.
“Student athletes will be introduced individually and brought into the facility where they will be seated at tables in front of the audience,” Knight said. “Several media outlets will be there to cover the event. Our superintendents and upper administration will attend and Dr. Dunlop will speak, as well as a former BA athlete and Hall of Fame Inductee Sam Belt.”
This opportunity that Broken Arrow gives its athletes is its last way to honor the students before they make the next step in their lives. The student-athletes that the focus will be on have been senior leaders, team captains, and prime examples for underclassmen both on the playing field and in the classroom. Senior softball player Mikalyn Strother has recently committed to Murray State, and her four years at Broken Arrow have done a solid job at preparing her for playing in college.
“After being at BA, I know that if I work really hard it will pay off,” Strother said. “I’m excited how challenging college softball will be. Being able to be in Signing Day makes me feel like I worked really hard to earn this opportunity.”
Along with Strother, many other BA senior-athletes are excited to see what they can do at the collegiate level. Senior golfer Andrew Skinner is a recent Ottawa University commit and he is ready to compete right out of high school.
“It’s exciting to commit to a college because now I know I’m going to be able to play golf at the next level,” Skinner said.
Broken Arrow wishes only the best for all of these talented athletes as they take on the next challenge in both their playing careers and their lives. Signing Day will take place Wednesday morning, Feb. 1 at 11a.m. in the indoor practice facility and can be viewed via live stream on ArrowVision.tv.
