In the past decade, Netflix has become one of the most popular sources of entertainment by just about anyone for its convenience and entertainment.

“I’ve watched ‘Supernatural’ for about six years, I like how funny and weird it is. I can’t wait for it to come back. I’ll watch Netflix about 4-5 hours a night,” senior Olivia Sanchez said.

Netflix was originally founded in 1998 after Reed Hastings had been charged a $40 late fee for the movie “Apollo 13.” This injustice fueled him to found a company to allow unlimited movie rentals for a single monthly rate.

After their customer base substantially grew, the company moved to live streaming in 2007. Three years later, the service had more than 20 million subscribers. Fast forward to 2012, Netflix is flourishing with more than 50 million subscribers and stocks set at $400 a share. From that the success of Netflix has just continued.

“I’ve had Netflix for about 6 years, I’ll watch it about 30 hours a week. I really like Orange Is The New Black and How I Met Your Mother or pretty much anything with Emma Thompson. But Netflix really needs to add some Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Modern Family or some NCIS,” junior Maddie Pratt said.

Within the next year Netflix plans to focus on it’s original series, either coming back or premiering. Netflix already has promising titles coming within the next six months such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and the second season of the newest Netflix Original “Narcos.” But besides the multitude of series, there’s also plans to add more recent movies more frequently for a short amount of time for a more satisfying and updated selection of entertainment.

“The positive thing about Netflix is it’s adaptability and convenience,” junior Annalise Crockett said.”It’s so easy to have any show you want at the touch of a finger. I’m really excited for the shows coming out this year.”
