On Feb. 20, BAHS students gathered in the Fieldhouse and performed rehearsed dances for their teams. This event is known as Gym Night. Gym Night began in 2015, and has become an annual event for students to take part in. Choreographed by a few of the Tigettes, each team was taught different dances to multiple songs and practiced for about two months to prepare for the show. Team Fire was led by seniors Aspen Dixon, Iman Knox, and Alexa Martin. Team Ice was led by juniors Sarah Leger, Katelyn Klempa, and senior Sabrina Domrique.

“I have choreographed Gym Night for the past 3 years and it has grown every year,” Aspen said. “My team practiced really hard and encouraged one another, they also listened to instructions very well and I appreciated them so much.”

Applied leadership classes spent class time to decorate different areas of the high school to help promote the event. Buildings like the Student Union, cafeteria, and the main lobby were split in half. Half of each building was decorated for Team Ice, and half for Team Fire. In those buildings, students got the opportunity to see different designs like mountains, log cabins, volcanoes and fire torches. The buildings were also used at the event, and each building was voted on which was the best decorated, earning the teams extra points to their final score.

“I really liked different parts of every building,” junior Mary Beth said. “But Team Fire’s decorations were the best.”

Students each performed their dances, including songs like “Ice Cream Paint Job,” “Ice Ice Baby,” “Fireball,” and “Set Fire to the Rain.” Throughout the night students danced, laughed, and made viewers in the audience smile. In the end, Team Ice came away with the victory, and they earned bragging rights for the rest of the year.

“My favorite dance was ‘Ice Cream Paint Job’ because everyone got into it and we were having a lot of fun,” senior Olivia Hernandez said. “Gym Night was a good way to meet new people and grow closer with people you already knew.”
