By now, it’s likely that most people have seen director J.J. Abrams’ latest box office phenomenon, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” since its opening night in December of last year. With an estimated revenue of over $248 million in North America, the seventh installment of George Lucas’ epic saga earned history’s biggest opening weekend ever.

“Seeing Star Wars on opening night was crazy,” senior Emily Cowden said. “I’ve never seen so many committed fans in one place.”

For some movie-goers and die-hard fans, this movie has been anticipated for more than 30 years. With the return of Harrison Ford as the smuggler Han Solo and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia Organa, Episode Seven has brought long-time Star Wars lovers the movie they have been waiting for.

“I really appreciate that they kept the original actors from the first movies,” senior Percy Totten said. “It added to the sense that it was continuing the story.”

While it pays homage to the original trilogy with many returning characters, The Force Awakens brings many new and original roles to the table, such as Daisy Ridley’s heroine role as Rey – a scavenger with a mysterious past, Jon Voyega’s character, Finn – a soft-hearted stormtrooper, and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren – the new, short-tempered villain who is following in Darth Vader’s footsteps.

“I think the new characters meshed really well with the original characters and new plot,” junior Reid Smith said.

The Force Awakens is sweeping the nation as one of the biggest blockbuster phenomenon in recent years. People around the world are ecstatic about continuing the fan-favorite Star Wars saga.
