Senior Easton Moore has achieved many academic awards during his time in high school. He is, among many other achievements, a National Merit Finalist. This is a title for students who have shown an outstanding academic ability.

“I studied for an hour every single weekday for three months leading to the PSAT,” Moore said. “I was so excited when I found out that I am a semifinalist, and even more when I was named a finalist. I also felt relieved because as a person focused on academics you never feel like you are recognized or rewarded, but I finally felt recognized.”

Moore was also recognized as a National AP scholar during his junior year, a title which is only granted to students who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken.

“Being a National AP scholar has helped me become a better student and person with learning time management and how to balance extracurricular, educational, and relational needs,” Moore said.

Along with his academic achievements, Moore has also been a presenter for the UNITED Bible Study Club for three years, and he is a member of many other clubs and school activities including AP Club, NHS, Invent Team, FCA, Fish Club, Jungle Squad and he is also the Vice-President of Student Council.

“Clubs balance my life,” Moore said. “As a National AP Scholar and National Merit Scholar there are self and peer inflicted educational expectations, but clubs are an escape for me to get invested in other people. As we live in a self-consumed world, all the clubs I am plugged into give me opportunities to love other people.”

Moore’s favorite subject this year is Peer Tutoring, where he gets to make someone else feel loved and important everyday.

“Easton is very dependable,” Special Education teacher Monica Pryor said. “He walks into class and finds students to work with immediately and he sets a very good example for our special needs students. He always enjoys working with the students, and he really goes above and beyond for the students he works with.”

Moore has been focusing on school through his entire high school career, and his studying began in his junior year when he attempted to overcome his language gap between English and Spanish.

“Easton enjoys life, and learning is a very important part of his life,” Spanish teacher Janice Smith said. “He is an excellent student because he makes learning fun, and he is applying that knowledge to his every day life.”

Moore attended the National Merit camp the summer going into his senior year. He learned many important things and experienced a revelation of how he viewed studying. He began to view it as an opportunity to expand his knowledge, rather than an educational responsibility.

During the week, Moore also spends 10-12 hours volunteering in a pastoral internship at First United Methodist Church while still maintaining high levels in all of his classes.

Because of Moore’s academic success, he has been named as a member of the 2018 Class of Distinction, which is the top 3% of the graduating class.
