For many students, playing sports is a big part of high school. Senior Alexus Ryan is playing her final season of soccer at the high school and is going on to play in college as well. Alexus has been playing soccer for thirteen years and will be attending the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

“I’ve been playing soccer for about thirteen years, and my parents and coaches have motivated me to continue to play and improve every day,” Ryan said. “My favorite part about playing soccer is being able to spend time with my friends while playing the sport that I love.”

The girls’ soccer coach Kasey Mahaffey has seen Alexus improve and grow during her years playing soccer, and knows the value she adds to the team as a veteran player. Alexus has been a versatile player on the team and has led through her knowledge and ability.

Alexus is a hard worker with natural athletic ability and she is able to transition into any position we need her to play and be successful at it,” Mahaffey said. “She has great speed and knowledge of the game.”

Fellow teammate and junior Mollie Breiner has also noticed the impact Alexus has had on the team, not just as a leader, but a friend as well. Alexus is able to bring the best out of the other players on the team and also brings a positive attitude to the team as well.

“Alexus always stays positive and pushes people to try their best no matter what,” Breiner said. “I’ve gotten a lot closer with her and I have realized how fun she is to be around; she is sweet, funny, and always tries her hardest in everything.”

The girls’ soccer season kicks off on Feb. 15 with a home game against Fort Gibson.
