Varsity boy’s soccer season kicks off

Soccer season has just begun, and many of the varsity players are ready to dominate the field this year. With a team full of veterans and good depth, the Tigers are hoping to make it all the way this year. Senior Alex Garcia is prepared mentally to focus and play hard this season, hoping to bring home the state championship.

“I’m hoping to improve my mentality and positivity this season because I usually get heated during intense moments,” Garcia said. “My favorite part of playing soccer is scoring goals and hearing the crowd cheer you on, there is nothing that beats that feeling.”

Fellow teammate, senior Tyler Broughton, is glad to have the opportunity to take on the state championship with the family of players that make up the soccer team. Broughton is also hoping to improve his game and score more goals than last season.

“Our goals for this season are to try and go undefeated and win the State Championship,” Broughton said. “My favorite part of getting to play soccer is having the opportunity to play with my brothers.”

Head Coach Shane Schwab is proud of the work and leadership the seniors have brought to the preseason practices and scrimmages. Schwab has been focused on making sure the team can close out games and finish big opportunities.

“Team chemistry is very good this year with our seniors, they have been working hard in preseason and they all are unified in their motivation to win state,” Schwab said. “We need to be better in the final third of the field by creating better chances for us, and if we are able to score early we can dominate and wear out teams with our possession and ball movement and depth of quality players.”

The boy’s soccer team will be in action on Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Kirkland Activities Complex.
