The “Underworld” franchise just released their fifth movie “Underworld: Blood Wars”, an action movie directed by Anna Foerster. The stars Kate Beckinsale portraying her character Selene the deathdealer, Theo James returns to the series to reprise his role as David, Selene’s vampire allie from “Underworld: Awakening” as well as the villain of the movie Marius portrayed by Tobias Menzies. The movie primarily takes place within the walls of an old castle, and alternates between one in the north to one outside of a city.
This movie follows the events after “Underworld: Awakening” where Selene was separated from her daughter for her safety. “Underworld: Blood Wars” picks up with brand new threats from both her kind and the werewolves who are being led by Marius. When Selene and David seek aid from the northern vampires of Vardo they comply and tell her if she wants to successfully protect her daughter she must change herself. In the end the movie ended on a cliffhanger right after their traited battle between werewolves and vampires.
One the the better things in this movie was the storyline, it went very well with the other movies as well as gave the series and character more depth. The added characters from the Vardo clan was one of the best scenes in the movie when they arrive to find the vampires themselves can practically teleport rather than run. Another scene to nod too is the one on one fighting scenes from Selene fighting Marius or to the deathdealers being trained in combat.
“Underworld: Blood Wars” was a lot of fun to watch just as the other movies in the series were. The movie will be in theaters for another week or two and is worth another watch.
