Auditions for the BAHS show choirs are coming up. Auditions for both Tiger Rhythm, the mixed show choir, and Tiger Mystique, the women’s show choir, will be held April 24-27 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Auditions for jazz choir will also be during this week. They will be April 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those auditioning will need to prepare 16 bars of a song of their choice. The song does not have to be any specific genre. Pick any school appropriate song that you feel shows off your voice. Those auditioning for jazz choir will only have to do the vocal audition. Anyone auditioning for show choir will also need to attend the dance clinics. Vocal auditions will be held during the dance clinic. On Thursday, April 27, students will audition with the dance they have been taught in small groups. Here are some tips for auditioning.

  1. Choose a piece you’re comfortable with – Don’t worry so much about your song being one genre or another. In the past you had to audition with a musical theater or jazz standard piece, this rule has since been changed to make others feel more comfortable with auditioning. You may prepare any song that shows off your voice well. Pick something that you can connect with, something you can have fun with and really show your personality well.
  2. Bring a friend – You’ll be so much less nervous if you bring a friend to audition with you. Someone to help you with a dance move you’re having an issue with, someone to listen to your song and give you some tips before doing your vocal audition. While you shouldn’t force someone to audition for something they don’t want to audition for, if you have a friend who’s on the fence about auditioning you should convince them to come. You guys can do it together and help each other out.
  3. Hydrate hydrate hydrate – Make sure to bring water with you to the audition. Between the dancing and singing you’re going to want to make sure you have it. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, still drink it when you have a minute because your body needs it more than you know.
  4. Don’t stress – Big reasons that people don’t audition for show choir is because they’re scared of the sight reading and dancing. Yes, both of these are important but you don’t have to be perfect at it. Everyone makes mistakes at auditions, everyone is nervous. Don’t freak out about it, just do your very best.
  5. Be yourself – A lot of people in show choir are singers before they are dancers. That might be what you are or it might be the other way around. Either way, whatever you are, be yourself. Have fun. If you mess up make sure you keep going.
