This past weekend, Feb. 3-5, the Varsity Tigettes traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in DTU (Dance Team Union) Nationals. The event took place right outside the entrance to Universal Studios at Doubletree by Hilton.
The Varsity Tigettes performed as well as placed better than they ever have before and made it to finals in both Pom and Kick.
“It felt amazing hearing the Tigette’s placement at Nationals,” senior and team manager Emily Bruner said. “It made everything that we went through this season worth it. We were very proud of each other because we knew every single person left it all on the floor.”
The Tigettes were awarded sixth place in Pom and third place in Kick. The Tigettes also took sixth place in Jazz.
“Knowing that we made Tigette history by going to finals and placing is the best feeling ever,” senior Sabrina Domrique said. “I feel so proud to be a Tigette. Our team was extremely positive the whole time we were in Florida and it really boosted our confidence and performance.”
The team has been working hard since the first day of the season in April to prepare for this competition. The Tigettes do weight lifting, technique classes, and normal practices where they work on their routines.
“I was blown away by our placement in kick,” Coach Meaghan Warren said. “It’s such a hard division to compete in and we were the smallest team there so for us to place third is absolutely amazing and shows just how talented our team is. There was definitely lots of screaming and jumping up and down. It’s so exciting as they start calling places and you don’t hear you name and you just know you’re in the top three. Such an amazing feeling. There’s nothing like it.”
Nationals was the last competition for the Tigettes this year, but they will continue to perform at basketball games for the rest of the season.
