Broken Arrow’s Pride marching band competed in the Grand National Championships in Indianapolis Nov. 14-16.

The Pride performed their show “Face Me”, a performance that is open to interpretation by the audience. This show plays with colors, using black and white with red accents. Pride members not only play instruments, but also perform choreography. Colorguard members add dramatic flare to the production.

All of these elements, combined with the powerful impacts and subtle techniques of the music earned Pride runner-up with a 97.0 score, which was .15 points away from first place winner Tarpon Springs, Florida. Both scores, however, were the first scores above 97 since 2010.

“I feel like it was fair,” senior Pridemember David Orrison said. “Most people think that being .15 points away again is a bad thing, but we got a 97, and that’s the highest score that Pride has ever gotten.”

Pride won the caption award for Outstanding Visual Performance in finals, and the Outstanding General Effect in semifinals.

“I really feel like Pride reached it’s full potential,” senior member Caleb Potter said, “it all came together perfectly in that final performance.”

This accomplishment does not come without hard work and dedication. Most weeks, Pride practiced every day except Wednesdays and Sundays. Before a competition, Wednesday practices were scheduled in addition to the regular practice schedule.

“It’s really sad that it’s over,” sophomore Shaelyn Disotell said. “People say it consumes your life, and it does, but in the best way.”

Now that Pride season has come to an end, Pride members will only gather once a week, in preparation for the Christmas Parade, which will take place in December.
