Lady Tigers head into the season with new head coach

Coach Mike Dooney is the new head coach for the girls varsity basketball team. It is his first year teaching and coaching for Broken Arrow, and the Lady Tigers are ready to have a dominant season with their new coach. Many of the players have noticed the effect that Coach Dooney has had on the team, and are looking forward to playing with him at the head of the team.

“Our goal for this season is to get better every day,” Dooney said. “We’re focusing on perfecting the little things, and to continuously grow and perform well every time we play.”

Sophomore Caroline Perkins is one of the Lady Tigers who is prepared to go a long way in this year’s basketball season. She believes that the improvements made by Coach Dooney to the team can help to bring them to the state tournament.

“Personally, Coach Dooney is the best coach I’ve ever had, and he is not only teaching us basketball but also is teaching us life skills and how to be the best versions of ourselves,” Perkins said. “Even in the past six months, he has transformed us from a team that only won 6-7 games last year, to a team that can compete in the state tournament.”

Sophomore Makayla Adams has already noticed the immediate impact that Coach Dooney has had on the girl’s basketball team, including the team being focused on many of the fundamentals needed to have a successful team.

“Since he’s come in the culture is already better, and playing the game is way more fun,” Adams said. “We are bonding a lot more and doing things that teams should do.”

Having a new coach with a new approach on the season has affected the girl’s basketball team in a positive way, and has led to many players preparing themselves and each other for a very eventful season.
