Josh Haltom is a senior art student at the high school who enjoys creating art and seeing the impact he makes on people. He participates in AP 2D design and Pre-AP Art II, and he obtained his inspiration from his dad and his grandpa who were both artists.
His favorite thing about art is selling it and seeing other people’s reactions.
“My favorite art medium is graphite because I’ve done it the longest and can capture people better with it,” Haltom said.
Artists tend to have favorite works they have done or ones they relate to the most.
“The piece I’m most proud of is the Robyn Davidson converse shoes because it’s someone I’ve always looked up to and they turned out better than I thought they would,” Haltom said.
Haltom has also created stuff for his peers.
“My favorite piece that he’s done is a jean jacket he painted for me with Jimi Hendrix on the back,” senior Olivia Espinosa said.
His peers see the potential and talent that he contains.
“He enjoys to create really realistic portraits,” Espinosa said. “I believe he has so much potential and will achieve great distinction for his work.”
His teachers also see his passion for art and his talent.
“He is very passionate about art,” art teacher Jennifer Brown said. “He reflects this passion through the care and concern he has for creatively crafting each part of each artwork. A simple eye on a camel may take two hours and have 20 colors and values.”
Josh was accepted into the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and is also applying to Kansas City Art Institute.
“I believe he has what it takes to be successful as a graphic designer or any art related career,” Brown said. “His attention to detail will serve him well.”
He plans on going into graphic design, however, his dream is to one day have his own art studio and produce art.
