Broken Arrow High School has many different clubs for students with many different interests. Latin club is one of these clubs that students can attend and participate in. Latin teacher Mrs. Turner runs the club and organizes the events and activities for Latin Club.

“Latin club is for the kids who are currently taking Latin or have taken Latin in the past, and we meet once a month,” Turner said.

Senior Grant Jones is involved in Latin club and focuses his interests in the language and culture of the Romans.

“I’m very passionate about the Roman culture and the Latin language in general, so I enjoy being able to spend part of my day learning about it,” Jones said. “Latin convention is a lot of fun, and we get free donuts at meetings.”

The main event in Latin club is the trip to the Latin convention, in which students participate in different competitions and activities.

“The biggest activity is when we take a trip to the annual Junior Classical League Convention, in the spring. Our club competes with other clubs in the state in different categories such as mythology, vocabulary, grammar, derivatives, history and olympica,” Turner said.

Liz Davies, another senior in Latin club, recommends other students to join Latin club to learn more about Latin and the history of the Roman lifestyle.

“I decided to join Latin club because I enjoy learning the language and the history behind the language, and my favorite part about the club is preparing for the convention,” Davies said. “Plus, Mrs. Turner brings donuts to the club meetings.”

Learning about the Latin language and culture is the main focus for the Latin club, along with preparing students for the Latin convention competitions. Any students interested in taking Latin and joining Latin club can talk to Mrs. Turner in room B218.
