I’ve learned a couple things during my 17 years on this Earth. I’ve learned how to walk, how to tap dance (I can do a very mediocre time step if need be) and how to dress myself. One thing I’ve yet to learn thus far is why Mother Nature thinks it’s alright for it to be 80 degrees outside in the middle of October.

In every picture on Pinterest this time of year, there is a girl with a pumpkin spice latte in her hands, a messy bun a-top her head, riding boots on her feet and perfect rosy cheeks due to the chilly weather. The leaves are falling in huge piles and she’s usually standing right in the middle of an apple orchard or something cute like that. I dream of falls like this, every September I tell myself “It’s only a month away Maddie, you can deal with the scalding hot summer just a little bit longer.” and I usually reply to myself, “Shut up, you don’t know me like that, I’m sick of this heat.” Autumn should be filled with pumpkins, leaves, cute vests and boots. Right now it’s just full of girls wearing leggings and pretending they aren’t about to have a heat stroke.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve lived in Oklahoma all my life. I understand the crazy, unpredictable weather, but this is just ridiculous. I want October. I want to max out my Starbucks card with all of the Pumpkin Spice Lattes I drink. I want chilly afternoons and the sound of red leaves crunching under my boots as I walk to class. I want to accessorize with scarves and leg warmers, not sandals. I’m fed up with Oklahoma’s weather. I’m rallying the troops, and shouting from the rooftop of Broken Arrow High School: “We want fall, and we want it now!”
