Beauty and the Beast will be Broken Arrow’s spring musical of 2017 and it is quickly approaching. The cast has just begun preparing for their performances that will take place in February. The hiugh school’s drama department puts the play on.
Senior Triston Sutterfield will be playing Maurice, Belle’s father, in the musical. He is most excited to work with his friends as well as new actors he has not yet had a chance to work with.
“Gaston is my favorite character in this musical, he is so flamboyant and is the comic relief of the show, he will be played by Caleb Ricketts and will be fun to see on stage,” Sutterfield said.
Sutterfield believes the most challenging aspect of getting the show ready will be working on the accents that go with each character as they are iconic and the show would not be the same without them.
Senior Lauren Young is elated to play Mrs.Potts, who is the motherly teapot. Young loved auditioning with everyone. All those who auditioned gave it their all and there was a lot of incredible talent.
“I’m most excited to see the reactions to the characters from all the little kids in the audience,” Young said.
Though she believes they will be challenging, Young is excited to get their costumes in order. She expects her costume will be one of the more challenging ones because she will have to have her arm bent inside in the shape of the arm of a teapot.
Senior Connor Blakely will playing the Beast. His lead counterpart, Belle, will be played by junior Sophia Krist. Blakely says auditions were frightening at first, but once everyone loosened up they had fun reading for different characters and singing together.
“I’m most excited to work with the wonderful cast I’m a part of to make a memorable show,” Blakely said.
Blakely considers himself to be a very passive person, so he is sure that grasping the ferocious and threatening stature that makes the Beast who he is will be difficult. However, with hard work Blakely knows that he will perform it well.
