This weekend, the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, will be hosting the largest competitive cheer competition of the year.

National Cheer Association (NCA) Allstar Nationals will be held Feb. 24- 27 and the event will attract over 25,000 athletes who will compete with their team for the title of NCA Champion in their division.

“I’m very excited for NCA. It’s always been one of my favorites,” junior Mariah Taylor said. “I’m not really nervous because I’ve been before and if you have the mindset, you’ll do fine.”

Taylor competes with Twist and Shout Diamonds in the level 5 Small Senior Coed division.
Fellow Twist and Shout Diamonds member senior Mahkye Slaughter is also excited about competing at such a high intensity competition.

“I’m excited for NCA because it’s a fun competition and very competitive,” Slaughter said. “I’m also nervous. It’s always scary competing at NCA because it’s really dramatic and a lot of pressure is on.”

Due to such a high turnout of competitors in past years, NCA has split the competition into four days instead of two. Levels 2-4 compete Friday and Saturday, and Worlds level teams, 5-6, are competing Sunday and Monday.

Many athletes are happy about this even being split into four days including sophomore and LUXE Legends member Katelyn Williams.

“I like how they split NCA into four days because it won’t be so crowded and everything isn’t so rushed,” Williams said.

Winning NCA is a big deal because each member of the winning team receives a banner, a trophy, a ring, a coveted NCA champion jacket and the title national champion.

Sophomore and LUXE Queens member Allyssa Morgan is excited about the chance to win a national champion title. Queens compete in the level 3 Senior All Girl division.

“I’m excited for NCA because I feel we have a really good chance of winning,” sophomore and LUXE Queens member Allyssa Morgan. “We’ve been preparing for NCA by practicing every day and running through the routine over and over.”

NCA Allstar Nationals will be live streamed on varsity.com all four days of the competition.
