Over the weekend, the drama One-Act team performed their show, “Women and War” for judges in the Union State Competition. The group was awarded several honors, including the Second place rating, the Most Professional Company Award, and four actors came home with All-Star Actor Medals. All-Star Actor Medals were given to Bailey Vought, Abi Groves, Macie Byrd, and Roxy Blish. On Oct. 22 and 23, they will premiere their award-winning show in the BAPAC in an open showing for the public.

This year’s play is called “Women and War,” and it is expected to be a tear jerker. It is a series of events that follows numerous women and their families. The play showcases their lives and how they were affected by war.

Seniors Bailey Vought and Daniel Stout both have parts in the production.

“The public can expect a whirlwind of emotions,” Vought, who plays Helen Sullivan, said. “It is filled with plenty of ups and downs and included a little bit of something for everyone.”

The drama students have been practicing for this performance since the first day of school.

“We have been preparing for our first performance by rehearsing diligently for weeks and meeting every day after school,” Stout, who plays the Vietnam pilot named Jack, said.

Drama Director Jana Ellis is overwhelmed with the performance of her students this past weekend. Every role is a lead in this play, and it certainly left an impact on the judges.

“All students are acting as important roles because it is an ensemble play, so all characters have equal importance,” Ellis said.

The One Act is approximately 45 minutes long and is only one act in comparison to plays like musicals which include one act then an intermission then another act.

The showing on Oct. 22 and 23 will take place 7:30 p.m, doors open at 7pm. Tickets will be available at the door for $5.
